Lee Roy Selmon's past combines the advantages of family football academic scholarship with volunteering for the community. First family he is the youngest of the nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon raised on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. The Selmons were also among the three siblings who represented Oklahoma on the field of football. The trio made All-America. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. Oklahoma won two National Championships throughout his time as a lineman. Selmon was given a second scholarship in 1975, and was named as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned a bachelor's in educational studies. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer every week while in the course of his college. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. He also began a career in the field of business. The year 1988 was the first time he started working as an Account Relation Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the United States' most outstanding young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in size and weighed in at 256 pounds in his college days. He captained the 1975 team. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as an assistant director of sports. In 1988 the year he was a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into both the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation.
