 Jordan Ross Belfort (/'belf@rt/ born on 9 July 1962) is an American speaker, entrepreneur writer, author, ex-stockbroker and financial criminal. He pleaded guilty in 1999 of charges of fraud, including manipulating the stock market and running an office as part of the penny stock fraud. Belfort was sentenced to 22 months in prison in accordance with an agreement in which he was required to testify against his co-workers and other subordinates involved in the fraud scheme. The author wrote his memoir The Wolf of Wall Street in 2007 and was made into the Martin Scorsese film of the identical title released in 2013. In the film, the character was played by Leonardo DiCaprio.Between completing high school and transferring to the college of his choice, Belfort and his close childhood friend Elliot Loewenstern earned $20,000 selling Italian Ice from Styrofoam coolers for sale to local residents at the beach. Belfort was a graduate of American University in Biology. Belfort intended to use the money he earned from Loewenstern for dental college. He attended the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. The dean told him, upon his first day at the university: "The golden era of dental practice is over." Don't come to the right spot if you're trying for a large amount of money. Belfort's first wife Denise Lombardo and Belfort divorced during the time he was running Stratton Oakmont. He later married Nadine Caridi, a British-born, Bay Ridge
