 Disney has revealed figures to commemorate 20 years of The Lion King, confirming that it's the top-earning stage production in the history of box office with $9.1 Billion (yes it's one billion dollars!). Add the film to the total and it's $11.6 billion. It is the biggest ever figure for both a screen and stage title. The film was released on October 28, the 20th anniversary of The King's premiere in the London's West End. However, this number does not include the earnings from the original film. Aside from the main films there are other ancillary income like TV shows as well as video games, merchandise and the sales of album soundtracks. The House of Mouse chose Julie Taymor as the adaptation. Although she is most famous for her Shakespeare direction, she also created stunning staging and costumes. The London anniversary gala, which was presented in aid of Elton John AIDS Foundation & the Royal Academy of Music, included the timeless tale of Simba's journey from a squinting cub to his destiny role as King of Pridelands on Serengeti Plains.
