Dumier

Honore-Victorin Daumier (French: [onoRe domje]; February 26, 1808 until February 10 1879) was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker whose pieces provide a commentary on political and social life of France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the second Napoleonic Empire in 1870. Daumier wrote satires of the conduct of his fellow citizens for periodicals and newspapers throughout his life and made a living from caricatures and cartoons of politicians. He was a republican democratic who criticised the bourgeoisie and politicians, as well as church as well as lawyers, the judiciary, and the judiciary. He was jailed for several months in 1832 following the publication of Gargantua which was a particularly insulting and sexy portrayal of the King Louis-Philippe. Daumier was also a skilled painter. He was frequently seen at Parisian Salons but was mostly ignored and dismissed by the majority of critics as well as the French public.
