On November 13, 2019, the show was created with Michael Landes, Brooklyn Sudano and Harley Quinn Smith. But, by May 18, 2020, Olivia Holt had replaced Mika Abdalla in the show.On October 30, 2020, Sarah Drew was added to the cast for a recurring role. Then, on March 11, 2021 Barrett Carnahan, Andrea Anders., Benjamin J. Cain and Nicole Bilderback were also given the role of recurring. Eloise, Griffin Gluck and Lisa Yamada were all cast in regular characters on April 21, 2022. Paul Adelstein was responsible for the script adaptation. The 6th of May, 2022, Braeden De La Garza Nile Bullock, and Jenna Lamb were cast for Cruel Summer season 2.Cruel Summer season 2 will introduce an entirely new timeline, set, and cast members while leaving behind Skyline and the first season. It's not clear whether any characters from the previous season will make a comeback.
