Steven John Carell (/k@'rel/ born on August 16, 1962)is an American actor and comedian. Carell played Michael Scott in The Office (2005–2011 and 2013), NBC’s adaptation of the British series by Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant. Carell was also an occasional writer, producer, and director. Carell's appearances on television and film have earned him numerous accolades which include the Golden Globe Award as Best Actor for a Television Series Musical or Comedy. Life magazine named him America's Most hilarious person. Also, he was recognized for his role as a reporter on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart between 1999 and 2005. He was later a star in a number of comedy films such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) and its 2013 sequel and the film The 40-Year-Old Lady (2005), Evan Almighty (2007), Get Smart (2008), Date Night (2010), Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), and The Way, Way Back (2013). He also voiced the characters in Over the Hedge (2006), Horton Hears a Who! (2008) as well as Despicable Me (2010-present).
