Ronald Merle McNutt (33-year-old American) shot himself under his chin in an Facebook Livestream. The livestream went viral across social media sites. The case was noteworthy for the disrespect shown by internet users towards McNutt's passing, and also for the slow Facebook response to the video. The video had been shared on many other platforms and amassed large views before being removed. TikTok which is a video platform, was slow to respond to the video. It had been shared in many user's feeds and then re-uploaded numerous times, prompting many users to decide to stop using the platform. The case brought attention to suicide prevention and the obligation of care that social media platforms have to respond to users when they post graphics. Many users decided to leave TikTok due the delay in responding. McNutt was employed at a Toyota plant near New Albany and lived a somewhat stable life.
