It is a testament to the talent and aplomb of the British poet Alfred Lord Tennyson that Alfred Lord Tennyson ranks as the 9th most quoted author in the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. He was the Victorian era's most famous poet and Poet-Laureate of Great Britain and Ireland. A gifted child, Tennyson showed an early fascination with writing that sealed his fate for future. But fame and respect wasn't easy for this wildly creative man as Tennyson in his early days of poetry was criticized as 'an obscure poet'. Dejected, he didn't write poems for nine years. The fourth decade of the 19th century turned Tennyson's fate and thus marked the beginning of his legacy. In 1850, after Tennyson wrote "In Memoriam", it became the ultimate work of his career. The career of the author reached new heights and he was regarded as the successor to William Wordsworth. The book also contains some of Tennyson's most well-known phrases that have become commonplaces throughout the English Languages.
