The MLB off-season has been with big-money deals that have seen teams commit thousands of dollars with the hopes of identifying the right mix to make them a playoff caliber team. Some teams are signing huge contracts to get the top baseball players for years. The front office splurged over 100 million on an addition to the pitching staff (Jordan Zimmerman) but it wasn't enough. They also needed to add offense, so they signed $132.75million in a new contract for six years to Justin Upton. The numbers he put up last season were not good, due to San Diego's pitcher-friendly stadium. But the numbers didn't change much from the previous season at Atlanta (.270 BA and 29 home runs and 102 RBIs - the record for his career). He is likely to put up comparable, if not better, numbers at the Tigers' park.
