Mariah Carey (/m@'raI@/; born March 27, 1969) is a famous American singer as well as songwriter, actress and record producer. She is known as "Songbird Supreme" or "Queen of Christmas". Her five-octave range of voice and her signature usage of the whistle register, as well as songwriting are just a few of her most memorable performances. Carey became a household name when she released her debut album. After breaking up with Mottola, Carey adopted a new look and added more elements of hip-hop in Butterfly (1997).
